Budapest is the capital of Hungary. It stands on the river Danube, which flows through the entire city. With the population of about 1,720,000 people it is the largest city of the country and the main center of economy, politics and culture.

The history of Budapest began before 1 A.D. when Celts built there their first settlement. Then it was invaded by the Romans who made Budapest the capital of the Lower Pannonia region. Since the Roman time the city began to develop, modern technologies became usual to this region. Romans built thermal baths, amphitheaters, roads and many other. In the 9th century Budapest became a Bulgarian military fortress consisting of two castles Buda and Pest on the both banks of the Danube. Nevertheless at the end of the 9th century Budapest was captured by the Hungarians. In 13 century it was hardly ruined by the Mongols and after reconstruction and wall reinforcement Budapest gained the status of the capital of the Hungarian Kingdom. Starting from the mid-16th century Budapest as well as whole Hungary was a part of Ottoman and Habsburg Empires. In 1867 the dual monarchy was established and Austria-Hungary Empire emerged. It lasted till the WW I. After the WW II Hungary was massively destructed and became a communist state. Budapest and the country itself became independent after the dissolution of the USSR and Warsaw Pact and now is a member of the EU.

Because of the extremely long history Budapest is rich in different architectural monuments. It quite difficult to measure what sight is the most popular and significant in the capital of Hungary. The main are neo-Gothic Parliament, Saint Stephen's Basilica, Aquincum Museum, Nagytétény Castle Museum; and such places as the Castle Hill, the River Danube embankments and the whole Andrássy Avenue are the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. You will find many Danube Cruises with stops in Budapest.

There available the most luxurious hotels such as Ramada Plaza, Le Meridien, St. George Residence - All Suite Hotel DeLuxe, Kis Tirol and others.
